Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech3) ended MotoGP FP1 at the top as rain continued to fall. Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) who usually doesn't go well in the wet finished the session in third, putting in an excellent bid for victory as the second half of the season begins. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) sat in the top spot for a good portion of the session, but was knocked back to second by Zarco.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) finished strongly in fourth, followed by the two Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders - Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales.
