Aston Martin will wait until Friday to confirm their Saudi Arabian Grand Prix line-up as Sebastian Vettel continues to battle Covid-19.

It is now a week since the four-time world champion first tested positive for the virus, missing the opening race in Bahrain as a result, with reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg flying out to replace him.

On Thursday, Aston announced Vettel was still yet to return a negative test that would allow him to travel to Jeddah for this weekend's race.

However, while Hulkenberg is ready to step in again, the team would give Sebastian "every opportunity to race" by not making a final decision until tomorrow.

“He was participating in the debrief [on Sunday], sounding less rough than a couple of days earlier,” said Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack.

“But we don’t know. We will see how he goes, we hope he will be back soon.”

The Silverstone-based team had a difficult start to the 2022 season with Lance Stroll 12th and Hulkenberg 17th and last of those to reach the chequered flag.
