Fresh from P4 in Japan, Alex Albon isn't thinking of making that next step on to the podium this weekend in Mexico.

The Thai driver continued his impressive run of top-six finishes in every race since joining Red Bull at Spa, also notably matching teammate Max Verstappen's lap time in qualifying.

However, as Formula 1 gets set in Mexico City for a race that the Dutchman has won the past two years, could this be Albon's opportunity to shine?

“Yeah, we’ll see,” he said via Formula1.com. “Maybe we are not favourites as we were in previous years. Yeah, we have our success here, but Ferrari is looking very strong as always.

“On my side, I’ll just focus on myself. A podium would be nice, but I’m not too focused on that at the minute."

Even so, the 23-year-old's consistency has actually seen him outscore Verstappen in their five races together as teammates.

And while reflecting on that impressive weekend at Suzuka, Albon admits the key is just greater harmony with the RB15.

“I don’t think anything special went on before Japan, just getting more comfortable every time [in the car] and then Japan was just a really good track, I loved it and maybe just enjoyed it, suited it a little bit – it was a good weekend," he said.

On how the Red Bull compares to the Toro Rosso he drove for the first 12 races, Alex added: “They have their differences obviously but it’s like every car, you have to learn its little tricks and everything like that.

"Spending that time in the Toro Rosso, you kind of develop a bit of a driving style towards it, and when you change team you have to start blank again.

“It has been a bit [difficult] – it does take time but it’s normal, every time you change car, for it to be like that,” he concluded.
