Lewis Hamilton is remaining coy on his chances of matching more records set by Michael Schumacher as he sits on the brink of a fifth Formula 1 title.
The Briton can secure that feat if he outscores Sebastian Vettel by eight points at this weekend's United States Grand Prix but two second-place finishes at the next two races would be enough to see him crowned champion.
Naturally, the debate is well underway as to whether Hamilton could go on and match Schumacher's record of seven world titles, however, the Mercedes driver admits it is not his career target.
“Honestly that has never been my goal,” he told Reuters.
“I started out with the goal to match Ayrton Senna or to equalise with Ayrton Senna who’s the guy that I aspire to be like, and I equalled him two years ago. So since then it’s kind of been going into unknown territory."
Despite that, the 33-year-old didn't entirely rule out the possibility of going on to win two more championships.
“So I mean Michael’s stats are incredible and still quite a long way away but I’m here for some time still, so I’m just going to keep working hard and keep trying to do what I do and what I love and enjoy it and we’ll see where it takes us," he added.

Another record some have wondered if Hamilton can get close to is the 91 wins Schumacher achieved with Lewis currently sitting 20 behind on 71 but averaging nine wins per year since 2014.
All of this remains hypothetical for now and there is still the small matter of getting the job done this season even if it appears a foregone conclusion.
“The approach that I’ve had up until now has worked very well,” he said looking ahead to Austin.
“We naturally want to win this weekend. So diligence and going through the same steps in terms of getting the car to where it needs to be through the weekend, I feel naturally relaxed and I know what I’m going to do.”
