Kimi Raikkonen had few complaints after a solid eight place at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Finn moved up one place from his grid position as Lando Norris and Sergio Perez fell back at the start with only Nico Hulkenberg moving ahead in the Renault.

There was a brief scare though, with Kimi revealing he had to pit earlier than he anticipated for his only stop.

“I think we had a small brake cooling [problem],” he explained. “One of the tear-offs fell in so we had to stop earlier than we wanted.

It wouldn't hamper him too much, however, and Raikkonen also had a positive assessment of the new 2019 rules.

“The car had a lot of speed in my view, but it is still difficult to overtake here," he continued. “It is easier to get closer but the last push is still tricky in this circuit.”

There was some pressure in the closing stages with Lance Stroll, Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly all in close attendance and Raikkonen admitted the race could have been better.

“Not all, but I think we will take it," he said on if he achieved the optimum. “I’m happy how the car felt but generally if we would have tidied up a few things we could have got more.

“But for the first weekend with the team, I will take it. No major f*** ups – so we take it and try to make the car faster for the next one.”
