F1 less appealing when Ferrari is not successful - Pirelli CEO

Formula 1 needs a competitive and successful Ferrari to be more appealing to fans, Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera claims.

In 2019, the Scuderia has been unable to maintain their form of the past two years when they challenged Mercedes for wins if not ultimately the championship.

However, the last race in Montreal saw Ferrari back in contention at least for one weekend, and the increased excitement that came with a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel was clear to see.

“Ferrari victories in Formula 1 are good for everyone,” Provera told Italian broadcaster Rai.

“A Formula 1 without a competitive Ferrari loses its appeal. I know that I should be neutral, but a victorious Ferrari generates a completely different dynamic in F1.

“And then I am also Italian, so a Ferrari victory is simply close to my heart.”
