Pierre Gasly declared the British Grand Prix a "massive step forward" after achieving his best result of 2019 in fourth.

After finishing a lap down on teammate Max Verstappen in Austria, the Frenchman benefitted from Vettel colliding with the Dutchman to beat him for the first time this season at Silverstone.

While that result was fortuitous having looked set for sixth when he was passed by Charles Leclerc, the improvement was the key thing for Gasly over the weekend.

"It was by far the best weekend of the year so we can be pleased," he said.

"There were quite a lot of things going on after Austria, meetings with the team, checking how we could improve the whole thing.

"We made a lot of changes and I'm pleased from the first session we could see the good step forward. A strong Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I just enjoyed the whole weekend. More so, we can be pleased with the step we made."

Asked what specifically had helped him make so much progress, Gasly explained it wasn't "one big thing".

"There are so many things that made it possible and as I said it wasn't one big thing, it was many little things to sort out," he said.

"[It was] still not perfect, but we had a massive step forward in every area.

"We still need to find that extra final step to make it to the podium but the whole weekend was strong."
