Pierre Gasly insists he is still enjoying his dream of racing for Red Bull despite a difficult first half of 2019.

The Frenchman scored his best result at Silverstone since stepping up to replace Daniel Ricciardo, finishing fourth in what was easily his strongest weekend to date.

That proceeded a difficult run to start the year which has seen him often battling with the midfield teams and lagging some way behind his teammate Max Verstappen.

“I think it’s tough but it’s part of the job and of course you have the good things, shining parts of the job, and also the tougher part but you need to deal with it,” he said of his initial struggles with Red Bull.

“This is the position I’ve always dreamed to be, I’ve always wanted to be in, and it’s a matter of dealing with it because sometimes you face more challenges but it’s part of the career.”

Red Bull boss Christian Horner described Gasly as a "different driver" after his performance in Britain, with the 23-year-old pointing to work done behind the scenes to work more positively with his race engineer.

“I think it’s always important. In the end, I spend more time with my engineer than I spend with my girlfriend so it’s important to have a good working relationship,” he smiled.

“For sure when you’re calm and you don’t really know each other there are certain things that are not automatic. But it’s up to us, myself and my engineer, to work around all those things and extract the maximum from ourselves and really understand each other.”

Also boosting Gasly's confidence is seeing the progression made by Red Bull, including watching Verstappen charge to victory in Austria.

“For sure I think it’s good to see the development is going in the right direction and the team is doing a good job and I’m pleased with that, we need to see," he said.

“I don’t want to look two or three races ahead at the moment. I’m only thinking of the things I need to sort right now to improve the performance, that’s the only thing I’m thinking about.”
