Charles Leclerc is very much hoping for an eventual Formula 1 title fight with Max Verstappen following several recent battles.

In Austria, the pair went wheel-to-wheel for victory in the closing laps with the Dutchman coming out on top and then at Silverstone, they pushed each other to the limit in an epic scrap.

It was so entertaining that is overshadowed Lewis Hamilton's sixth British GP win and even led F1 CEO Chase Carey to praise the spectacle they put on.

“When we look at this season, I think it is mainly the younger generation that steals the show,” he was quoted by PlanetF1.

“The fights between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are of course wonderful examples, for which fans watch our sport.

“Thanks to our work, these young talents are coming, as we an F1 organisation also invest a lot in the Formula 2 class.

“You see that more and more different drivers with different backgrounds are entering Formula 1 and that is exactly what we are trying to do to stimulate.”

Looking forward, Leclerc hopes the stakes can be even higher as he and Verstappen emerge as the next top stars on the F1 grid.

“It would be great fun, we have been competing in karting for a long time. To fight each other for the [F1] title in the coming years would be fantastic," he told Germany's Sport Bild.

"The new generation is coming and I have raced against them for quite some time."
