Lewis Hamilton hopes Formula 1 won't go "backwards" to improve the sport going forward.
The five-time champion has become involved in the ongoing talks to decide the final regulation changes for 2021, which are aimed at increasing the competition on the grid.
In Germany, however, when Mercedes put old racing cars on show to celebrate 125 years of motorsport, Hamilton was asked if he would consider looking to the past for inspiration.
"Probably not, highly unlikely. If you look at all the car manufacturers and the way they are progressing it is all about technology and evolution so we are definitely not going backwards I would say," he said.

"I don’t know if it is a good thing to go backwards but there are so many more elements we can extract out of this sport to make it better and that is what everyone is working towards.
"The most interesting time to come is 2021 to see if they get it right or get it wrong. It is like the whole Brexit thing and the things going on in the States. Who knows if it is going to go right or wrong, we will find out when we get there."
Part of the debate has been proposed changes to the weekend format with less practice to try and create more unpredictability.
F1 has also seen the success of Formula E's one-day race events, but Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that would be a wrong direction.
“If it’s cut short in two days it takes some value out of a race weekend," he argued to RaceFans.
“Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motor racing and it’s the world championship among engineers, drivers and the best teams and therefore that is a thing I wouldn’t change.
“I would leave it on Friday.
“What we can think about is cutting a session short on Friday or reducing the running time to 60 minutes rather than 90 minutes [in both sessions]
“These are things that are worth considering but I wouldn’t go for a radical cancellation of the Friday.”
