Former Ferrari Team Principal Jean Todt is to remain in his current position of FIA President until 2021 after securing a third term in the role following an uncontested election on Wednesday.

The Frenchman replaced Max Mosley in 2009 after beating Finnish rallying legend Ari Vatanen in a vote but has had questions over his authority as the top man at the governing body of world motorsport in recent years particularly with as regards to the eco-friendly push in Formula 1 which resulted in the introduction of the divisive hybrid engines in 2014.

Todt will have an important part to play in working with F1 owners Liberty Media, who took over the sport completely at the start of this year and have plans to overhaul how the sport is run, which will need the support of the FIA and teams, and is also working on building a more defined ladder of junior categories which began with the re-launching of F2 in 2017.
