After only three races for Maximilian Gunther, US Formula E outfit Geox Dragon welcomes Felipe Nasr, who will partner Jose Maria Lopez from the race in Mexico City onwards.

Gunther had been with the team as a test and reserve driver in the 2017/18 season, before making the step-up to a full-time seat, replacing Jerome D’Ambrosio for the 2018/19 Season.

The German’s results had been steadily progressing, finishing 15th at the season opener in Ad Diriyah, 12th in Marrakesh and Qualifying seventh in Santiago despite retiring from the race due to technical issues.

Nasr, who has previously raced with Sauber in Formula 1 and most recently in Brazilian stock car racing, will take to the wheel of the No. 6 car for the first time next week in the 2019 CBMM Niobium Mexico City E-Prix.

"I’m thrilled to be joining Geox Dragon at the Mexico City E-Prix. The series has been on my radar for a while now, and I feel that this is a remarkable opportunity," Nasr said.

"Formula E has taken big steps since it began and is now showing the way to the future, not only pushing the boundaries of the electric vehicle technology but also the way teams and drivers compete in a challenging single day event format in the heart of major city centres all around the world.”

“Felipe has demonstrated incredible talent, scoring 29 points in his two seasons in Formula 1, and winning the 2018 IMSA Prototype Championship," said Jay Penske, Owner of Geox Dragon. "He would be an invaluable asset to the evolving Geox Dragon organization. We would be thrilled to add a driver of his calibre to the team.”

Commenting on the movements, Gunther said: "It was clear from the beginning that I would share the season at Geox Dragon with another driver. I know that I will be racing for Geox Dragon again this season. Until then, I will continue to do the simulator work and be a test and replacement driver for the team."

"I had a lot of fun in Santiago de Chile, where I had a great race after my super qualifying until my retirement and I am looking forward to returning to the Penske EV-3 soon."
