‘King of the Ring’ Marc Marquez has taken his 8th consecutive pole at the Sachsenring. After taking the top spot in FP4 from Pedrosa and Bautista, Marquez bit back to take another pole.
Danilo Petrucci looked certain to be the pole sitter, as he provisonally sat there for the majority of the session. As the rain started to come down harder times began to slow, but nobody could stop Marquez for doing what he does best around this track.
Petrucci had to come through Q1, as did Pol Espargaro who made a shock appearance into Q2 on his factory KTM. Both did exceptionally well, with Petrucci adding another front row start (2nd) to his arsenal, with Pol heading up the third row in 7th in front of his brother Aleix.
The Movistar Yamaha duo of Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales struggled. While both were in Q2, they could only manage 9th and 11th. Andrea Dovizioso – who won last time out in Assen and again in Catalunya only managed to muster up a 10th place start, while his team mate Jorge Lorenzo who notoriously struggles in wet conditions will start from 6th.
