Daniil Kvyat heads into 2019 “more mature” and accepts his seat at Toro Rosso represents a final chance to succeed in Formula 1, manager Nicolas Todt has claimed.
The Russian’s rollercoaster career is well-known having joined the Red Bull junior team in 2014, gained promotion to the senior outfit a year later only to return to Toro Rosso after being replaced by Max Verstappen at the 2016 Spanish GP.
Kvyat would then struggle against Carlos Sainz leading to his ultimate exit after the 2017 United States GP but now he is back at the Faenza-based squad for a third time in an all-new pairing with Alexander Albon.
“In Formula 1, it’s always difficult to get a second chance,” Todt said, speaking to Italy’s Corriere dello Sport.
“He wanted to understand what happened and did a great job on the Ferrari simulator [last year]. His situation reminds me of the return of Felipe Massa to Sauber in 2004 and two years later he was at Ferrari with Michael Schumacher.”

Despite all that has happened to Kvyat in F1, he remains only 24 years old and Todt is confident that he is much better prepared for what lies ahead.
“I don’t want to indulge in dreams, but Daniil is a talented rider and a good athlete, not forgetting about cultural development,” the son of FIA president Jean continued.
“He reads Tolstoy and Dostoevsky and this is a very intelligent and self-analytical person.
“He returns to Formula 1 less emotional and more mature. It is clear that he needs to achieve results, but he also understands how important this chance is and that he will not get another one.”
