Competition is already at maximum levels in the sixth appointment of the Championship, with Vesti, Fittipaldi and Nannini in the first positions.
A hot and sunny Friday sees the drivers of the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA challenge themselves on the track of the Circuit of Barcelona, in Montmelò, where performance of the fastest drivers are extremely close to the point that in FP1 Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam 1.40:873, Matteo Nannini (Corbetta Competizioni, 1.40:896), Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam, one thousand of a second from Nannini) and new entry Dan Ticktum (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1.49:960) are all within 0.087 seconds.
In the afternoon, even though teams have mounted new tyres, lap times have increased due to air temperature being higher, which has taken away some HP from the engines.
So fastest times have been above 1.41:00 and it is the Prema Powerteam couple Vesti (1.41:045) – Fittipaldi (1.41:116) to jump ahead and put some distance from the others, first of which the Londonese Dan Ticktum, 0:370 seconds from Vesti. Fourth is the last Prema driver, Olli Caldwell, with 1.41:561, Igor Fraga (DR Formula by RP Motorsport) with 1.41:643 and Sophia Floersch (Van Amersfoort Racing), with 1.41:733.
Tomorrow weather forecast indicates heavy rain already in the morning, so that setup work on dry conditions might be lost completely with wet track and need for drivers and teams to “guess” the right settings. Qualifying sessions will start at 9:00. After qualifying race 1 will start at 13.05.
Race will go live tomorrow on Motorsport.tv (in English and Italian), on AutomotoTV (in Italian) and streaming on the Facebook page of the championship (in English and Italian).
