Fears are growing that this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix will be disrupted by the arrival of Super Typhoon Hagibis.
Tropical weather systems are not too uncommon in the Pacific at this time of year and Formula 1 has had to deal with the threat before, most notably in 2014 when worsening conditions played a role in Jules Bianchi’s fatal crash.
Current forecasts are for potentially flooding levels of rain starting on Friday afternoon and continuing through until Sunday morning.
Although the typhoon, which is currently a category four, is expected to weaken a little before reaching the Japanese coast.
The actual track of the storm remains inconsistent according to forecasters at this still quite early stage but no doubt all eyes will be on updates as Hagibis gets closer.
