Esteban Ocon is hoping to make his return to Renault for the post-season test in Abu Dhabi next month.
The Frenchman will be back where he belongs on the Formula 1 grid in 2020, albeit not with Mercedes as he’d hoped after spending a year as reserve driver.
Instead, he’ll be with the French manufacturer replacing Nico Hulkenberg and having been restricted to a handful of test outings, Ocon hopes Mercedes will free him to get some valuable running under his belt at Yas Marina.
“I don’t know, but hopefully as soon as possible,” he told German media in Brazil.
“I hope I can do the test in Abu Dhabi, but the two teams will have to decide if that is possible.
“But of course that is what I would like.”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had previously revealed Ocon would be phased out of team operations as the year ended to avoid him gaining any knowledge that could help Renault in 2020.
And given how highly the Austrian has spoken of the 22-year-old surely this final request will be granted.
