PREMA Racing signed Jak Crawford to the team for 2022 Formula 3 season.
The 16-year-old American will enter the Formula 3 Championship operation in 2022 after claiming one podium finish in his 2021 debut. As a preparation for his F3 campaign, he will take part in the Formula Regional Asian Championship with Abu Dhabi Racing by PREMA.
Crawford started his single-seater career in 2018, taking second place in the NACAM Formula 4 Championship and moving to the USF 2000 Championship for 2019. In 2020, he moved to the European racing scene, joining the Red Bull Junior Team and finishing second in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship.
In addition to his FIA F3 program, he competed in the Euroformula Open Championship last year. Eight wins led him to third place in the series despite having to miss some of the events.
Crawford, who joined PREMA Racing for post-season FIA Formula 3 testing at Valencia, now aims to follow in the footsteps of fellow Red Bull Junior driver Dennis Hauger, who graduated to Formula 2 after winning the 2021 F3 title.
Rene Rosin – Team Principal: “We have always kept a close eye on Jak. He established himself as one of the most promising drivers since his Formula 4 days, and finally working together will be extremely interesting. I’m sure that there is enough potential to aim high for 2022.”
“We already had the chance to work with him in testing, and we look forward to continuing that process in the Formula Regional Asian Championship. I’m equally delighted to continue our work with the Red Bull Junior Team in order to develop the next generation of high-profile racing drivers.”
Jak Crawford “I’m very excited to be joining PREMA for a second season of FIA F3 as well as contesting the Formula Regional Asian Championship with them.”
“I am very much looking forward to building on what I learned last year in my rookie season, and hoping to emulate the success that other drivers have had with the team in the past. FIA F3 will be the main focus for me this year and I am eager to get the season underway.”
