PREMA Racing announced that Jehan Daruvala will join the team for the 2022 Formula 2 Championship.
The 23-year-old Indian, supported by the Red Bull Junior program, will make his return to the team after finishing third in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Daruvala scored three wins in his Formula 2 career so far, with the most recent one coming at Yas Marina in the 2021 series finale. His previous experience also includes successful ventures in the FIA F3 European Championship and Formula Renault.
As a preparation for the 2021 FIA F2 season, Daruvala took part in the Formula 3 Asian Championship, finishing third in the standings with three wins and consistent performance throughout the series.
Then, at the end of the Formula 2 championship, he joined PREMA Racing for postseason testing, laying down impressive lap times and showcasing great consistency in race trim.
As the series switches back to a two-race weekend format he already experienced in 2020, Daruvala will be a particularly key asset. For 2022, he will race alongside fellow Red Bull development driver Dennis Hauger, who will transition from F3 for his rookie Formula 2 season.
Rene Rosin – Team Principal: “We have had a great relationship with Jehan when we raced together in FIA F3 and we have deep respect for his skills and work ethics. I think he fits our team very well and I’m looking forward to see how much progress he has made in the last couple of years.”
“He performed impressively in post-season testing and he has a great deal of experience also in terms of race formats and procedures. Together with the Red Bull Junior program, we will provide him with all the support he needs to pursue his goals.”
Jehan Daruvala: “I’m really happy to be back at PREMA and continue to be part of the Red Bull Junior Team for the 2022 FIA F2 Championship. We have worked together in the past and share a fantastic relationship.”
“PREMA is a champion team and I can’t wait to get started and look forward to a successful F2 campaign.”
