Ferrari has confirmed Mick Schumacher will stay at Prema for a second year of Formula 2 in 2020.

The decision was widely expected after an up and down first season in the series for the son of seven-time F1 champion Michael.

Schumacher has shown signs of his potential, including leading from start-to-finish to win the Sunday sprint race in Budapest.

But multiple retirements and inconsistency have the 20-year-old German only 12th in the standings ahead of the finale this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Mick will be joined at Prema by another Ferrari Academy member, F3 champion Robert Shwartzman, who dominated the series to claim the title by 54 points.

In total, five drivers linked to the Italian team will be on the grid with Marcus Armstrong also stepping up from F3 to take Nyck de Vries’ place at ART Grand Prix.

They will join Callum Ilott and Guiliano Alesi who joined Schumacher in F2 this year, with the British driver currently five points ahead of Mick, while Alesi sits only 18th with 10 points to his name.
