Renault Sport managing director Cyril Abiteboul has launched a scathing attack on Red Bull as the two parties prepare to meet to discuss a potential 2019 engine deal.

Currently, the Anglo-Austrian team is considering whether to stay with the French manufacturer with whom they won their four world titles between 2010 and 2013 or make the bold move to Honda.

Renault has been pushing for a decision from Red Bull, who have stated next month’s Canadian GP as the decisive moment yet the chances of the two staying together appear to be getting slimmer and slimmer.

“Red Bull criticising its engine supplier is nothing new,” Abiteboul told the Daily Express newspaper.

“We have been with them for 12 years, won eight championships together, and yet Renault is still criticised. We are used to it.

“They will never learn and they will never be able to appreciate the need for loyalty and commitment to a supplier.”

When McLaren ditched Honda in favour of Renault for 2018, there was speculation that Red Bull may have no choice but to switch for next season as the British team becomes a new technical partner.

Though time will tell as to what Red Bull ultimately decide, the Frenchman is undeterred as he sees the potential in their new customer.

“If Red Bull is the aerodynamic reference, then McLaren is for the mechanical part of the car,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for us so we’ll see where it takes us, for now until 2020.

“We’ll see what happens then.”
