Kevin Magnussen doesn’t believe Haas will follow his two previous teams in entering a lengthy slump in results.
The American outfit went from finishing fifth in the Constructors’ Championship in 2018 to ninth last year, as chronic issues with the tyres meant they only scored points in five races all season.
And Magnussen certainly hopes he isn’t about to experience what he endured first with McLaren in 2014 and then again Renault in 2016.
“It was a pleasure to see a team that was on the up rather than going backwards,” the Dane remarked to Motorsport-Total looking back on his first two seasons with Haas.
“It’s just a more positive experience. You feel the growth, the improvements and the excitement about it.
“In the first three years we made enormous steps forward. Maybe it didn’t look that big, but within three years, progressing from eighth to fifth is pretty good.”

Perhaps worryingly for Haas, however, the same tyres which were so difficult for them last year will be used again in 2020.
But having spent the second half of last year trialling solutions and with lessons learnt, Magnussen is confident of a stronger year to come.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen here,” he said of whether Haas was on course to mimic McLaren and Renault’s prolonged slump.
“I think we can turn the situation around faster and find our way. I am convinced that we can do it.”
