Albon & Williams announce multi-year contract extension

Alex Albon and Williams have announced a multi-year contract extension for 2023 and beyond.

The London-born Thai driver has had a strong season since joining at the start of this year, scoring all three of the team’s points in the first 13 races.

And as the Formula 1 driver market picks up following the drama surrounding Oscar Piastri and Alpine, Williams appears to have moved fast to secure Albon for the foreseeable future.

“It’s really exciting to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year,” Alex said.

“The team is pushing hard to progress, and I am really motivated to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together.”

Williams CEO Jost Capito added: “Alex is a tremendous driver and valued member of Williams Racing, so we’re thrilled to be able to confirm we will be working with him on a long-term basis.

“Alex brings a great blend of skill and insightful learnings that will help bring the team greater success in the future. He’s a fierce competitor, has proved a popular and loyal team member and we are delighted that he will provide a stable base for us to continue to develop in this new F1 car era.”

Speculation will continue as to who will be Albon’s teammate for 2023 with Piastri having been linked to Nicholas Latifi’s seat before his current contract skirmish with Alpine.

F2 driver Logan Sargeant is also set to make his first Practice outing for Williams later this year at the US Grand Prix.
