Formula 1 has confirmed which races will use the Sprint format in 2023.
Next year sees the number of Sprint weekends double from three in 2021 and 2022 to six, starting with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix which moves back to its earlier late-April date.
Austria’s Red Bull Ring will hold its second Sprint in early July followed by Belgium at the end of the month.
The fourth takes place at the returning Qatar GP before Austin and Sao Paulo complete the 2023 Sprint line-up.
Formula 1 says the selections come after researching the most suitable circuits to hold the format based on overtaking opportunities, close racing and high-speed sections.
And CEO Stefano Domenicali hopes the Sprint, which has had a love/hate reception from fans, will continue to deliver better action.
“We have seen a hugely positive reaction to the F1 Sprint events during the first two years of its running, and we can’t wait to bring even more action to fans with six events next year, including our first US F1 Sprint in Austin,” he said.
