    Berlin E-Prix officially called off

Formula E has officially called off the Berlin E-Prix that was scheduled for the 21st June as the FIA announced that June is now considered a red month where the series cannot go racing.

Formula E and the FIA  will continue to use its flag-based system to determine the status of each race. A red flag representing that no races will happen, a yellow flag indicating a time window to potentially restart racing and a green flag meaning we are ready to race again.

Also, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced plans to slowly ease the lockdown restrictions in Germany to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, but she continued to reinforce that large events should remain forbidden until the end of August, which raised suspicions that the Berlin E-Prix would not go ahead.

July has now become a yellow flag month, with the opportunity to host events or reschedule races remaining open should the coronavirus situation stabilise.

A Formula E statement said “We aim to return to racing as soon as possible, but our priority in all decision-making must be the health and safety of our staff and the entire Formula E community of teams, manufacturers, partners, drivers and fans, as well as the citizens and residents of the cities in which we race.

“We are assessing all available options in order to finish the season with the highest number of races possible. This contingency planning continues to explore staging races behind closed doors, using permanent track facilities, introducing new doubleheaders and extending the season beyond its original end date.”

New York and London are also likely to be called off, as both race facilities are being used to help the support stopping the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, it is likely that the next Formula E race may be scheduled for late August to early September.
