Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto has insisted development of the SF90 is “on the right path” despite a tricky French Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel described the weekend as a “failure” for the Italian team after a number of updates brought to improve performance didn’t bring produce the necessary results.
But while Binotto accepted Ferrari had fallen short of expectations, he still saw enough to remain optimistic.
“In terms of performance, we are not yet where we want to be,” he said. “We knew this circuit would be tough for us and to finish with Charles [Leclerc] right behind [Valtteri] Bottas is encouraging.

“The developments we have introduced since the Spanish GP have allowed us to close the gap and we have shown that we are on the right path,” the team boss stated.
“Some of these updates have proved to be very useful, others unfortunately less so, but we know that we have the potential to improve significantly.
“At this point, we are confident, aware that there is still a lot to do, but that we have the ability to develop the car and to be competitive on all tracks.”
This weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix could be an interesting one for the Scuderia with the long straights that begin a lap of the Red Bull suiting their car but the technical second half will provide a challenge.
