Sam Bird set the first marker of the day in the second practice session for the AD Diriyah E-Prix as he ended the final practice session of the day fastest by eight-tenths of a second.

The 30-minute session was the last opportunity for the drivers to get themselves prepared for qualifying, which meant the track was littered with traffic, which caused some drivers not get a representative lap time.

Antonio Felix Da Costa ended the session second fastest eight-tenths of Bird’s lap time of a 1:14.353. Edoardo Mortara proved that the Mercedes powertrain might be quite competitive this season as he put his Venturi in third with a lap time of a  1:15.302.

Sebastien Buemi was the first of the Nissan drivers in fourth with his teammate of Oliver Rowland just behind in fifth.

Daniel Abt finished the session in sixth but is under investigation for causing a collision when he held up James Calado at turn 20, causing the brit to hit the wall and sustain a left rear puncture.

Jerome D’Ambrosio ended the session in seventh for Mahindra, while this morning’s pace-setter Robin Frijns ended up in eighth.

Andre Lotterer came home in ninth for Porsche, while Pascal Wehrlein was able to finish in tenth for Mahindra.

The session started with two laps behind the Full Course Yellow due to changes made to the track in between both morning sessions. The FCY also gave the FIA a chance to test the 1kwh energy deduction every minute. This will be in effect during the safety car or the FCY in the race.

Qualifying will get underway at 11:00 am local time.
