Jerome D’Ambrosio believes a podium could have been in sight in Mexico if he was not impeded by a number of penalties.
Both D’Ambrosio and teammate Wehrlein started the race from the back of the grid after both cars incurred a 40-place grid penalty. Additionally, D’Ambosio was handed a 10-second stop-and-go in the race, while Wehrlein was also handed a drive-through penalty.
Even with these penalties, both drivers managed to finish the race in the points, with D’Ambrosio crossing the line in 10th and Wehrlein just in front in 9th.
However, the Belgian driver thought after qualifying the car felt good enough to challenge for a podium.
“Qualifying was good, and the car felt good and having finished third fastest after Super Pole, I think the potential was there for a podium finish today,”
“But with the penalty, we had to start from the back, and the race was quite interesting; we managed to score a couple of points, and I think that was all we could do today,” D’Ambrosio added.
Despite being burdened by numerous penalties, Dilbagh Gill, was ‘encouraged’ by his team’s performance in Mexico City E-Prix.
Gill expressed that his team knew the challenges were going to great during the weekend but has acknowledged the positives the team managed to achieve.
He said “The pace was encouraging and achieving Super Pole again, the only team to have done so in every race in season 6, was good. We’ve shown we are fast and we’re encouraged that we had a reliable performance from both cars all weekend and to finish with both cars in the points after incurring the penalties was good.”
After a tough start to the season, Gill is optimistic that the team can get back into the championship at a track they have previously found success.
“We are heading to possibly our favourite E-Prix next, Marrakesh, which we have won the past two seasons and have many fond memories there. We are determined to move past the niggles we have had at the start of season six and get our campaign back on track.”
