Daniil Kvyat admits making up for a quiet first day was of greater significance than topping the timesheet on Wednesday.

The Toro Rosso returnee set the fastest time of the week in Barcelona, a 1m17.704s, having been one of just two drivers to test Pirelli’s softest tyre now named C5.

“The priority wasn’t that [being fastest], the priority was to bounce back after the first day of mine which wasn’t ideal,” he told reporters in the paddock

“But we’ve recovered enough and even more, so that’s great. A productive day.”

In fact, Kvyat managed 134 laps to add to the 77 he managed on Monday as Honda continues to get good mileage on their new engine at both Red Bull teams.

“It [the STR14] feels to my liking so far. Every time I’m out there I pretty much know what it’s going to do for me, so it’s a nice feeling so far,” the Russian added.

“Of course, it’s early days, but the better the start is always welcome. So I’m planning to keep improving and working on the car.”
