Daniil Kvyat is already proving his worth to Toro Rosso thanks to his past experience in Formula 1, deputy technical director Jody Eggington claims.

The Russian has returned to lead the junior Red Bull team alongside rookie Alex Albon, having earned another opportunity via his work as a Ferrari development driver last year.

And, in what was a strong first week of testing for the STR15 in Barcelona, Kvyat’s contribution was singled out.

“He spent a lot of time in the simulator at Ferrari and that is a benefit to us,” Eggington said. “His feedback has been really useful because he has good references from his former times with us.

“It is nice to have him in with some previous experience, reminding us of a few things, and giving solid feedback.”

Kvyat was also praised for his work with Albon, as the 22-year-old F2 graduate steps up, and his team boss Franz Tost is sure his third stint at Toro Rosso will be more successful.

“Kvyat will do a good job,” he predicted. “We all now that Daniil Kvyat is a very high skilled driver, and he showed this in the past, then he came to Red Bull Racing, and I think everything was a little bit too fast.

“He came then back to us, but there were some problems with our car in those days, we were not so competitive.

“Then he was one year at Ferrari in the simulator, where he got the chance to learn a lot, to get more mature, and he is now back.

“If the car package is good, he will be there,” Tost concluded.
