Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo has ruled himself out of succeeding Jean Todt as FIA president.
The Frenchman is set to end his 12-year stint at the head of the governing body in 2021 having seen out the maximum three permitted terms as head of motorsport’s governing body.
Di Montezemolo was recently reported as a possible candidate to replace Todt and even had the rumoured support of his fellow former Ferrari colleague and ex-F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.
But giving his first comment on the topic, stated he was not considering a presidential bid.
“I read about the hypothesis. I exclude that the Presidency of the FIA could be one of my intentions or possibilities,” he told FormulaPassion.
As it stands, the current chairman of Motorsport UK David Richards, Formula E founder Alejandro Agag and current FIA vice president Mohammed bin Sulayem have been tipped as likely candidates for the election currently scheduled for next year.
