Formula 1 has confirmed a two-year contract extension with the Dutch Grand Prix until 2025.
The event at Zandvoort made a much-anticipated return to the calendar in 2021, after its planned comeback the year before was postponed due to Covid-19.
Both races so far have been won by Max Verstappen much to the delight of the Orange Army that flocks to the circuit to cheer on their local hero.
“The Dutch Grand Prix has quickly established itself on the calendar as a fan favourite, bringing incredible energy and a great fan experience every year,” F1 chief Stefano Domenicali commented.
“The sold-out events in the last two years have raised the bar in terms of organisation, entertainment, and sustainability, and we are delighted to extend our relationship with them.
“There is a huge demand to host F1 races, so it is a testament to what the team have done to cement Zandvoort on the calendar until 2025, and we can’t wait to return next summer.”
Given its location in sand dunes on the North Sea coast, protecting the local environment has been a key focus for race organisers, with 99% of General Admission fans travelling by public transport, bike and on foot.
Also, the implementation of a smart power grid saw carbon emissions reduced by 80% compared to 2021.
Looking ahead, Dutch GP sporting director Jan Lammers says further efforts to increase sustainability will be important, as well as improving the party!
“We are looking forward to the upcoming Grands Prix with great races in which Dutch fans can now enjoy no less than two Dutch drivers,” he said, referring to Nyck De Vries who joins AlphaTauri in 2023.
“Of course, we will again offer an extensive and surprising entertainment program. With this we are again offering the ultimate race festival.
“We want the world to experience again how we as the Netherlands organize an event. It is unique that we are on the calendar with world cities like Las Vegas, Monaco, and São Paulo, and as we say internally, we are ‘Ready for Tomorrow’.
“We need and want to put on the F1 event of the future, which is not necessarily bigger but better, more engaging, more innovative, more sustainable, and more inclusive.”
