F1 sends ‘deepest condolences’ following death of Queen Elizabeth II

Formula 1 has sent its “deepest condolences” following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in Scotland on Thursday.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace announced Her Majesty passed away peacefully at her summer retreat in Balmoral during the afternoon after revealing she was placed under medical supervision earlier in the day.

Before the announcement of her death, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton sent his best wishes to the Queen ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

“It is definitely concerning,” he said. “She has been such a strong leader for such a long, long time and so resilient.

“I know she has always been a real fighter, so my thoughts are with her, and the family, and my prayers are with them.

“I am hoping for better news soon.”

Unfortunately, that better news didn’t come and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali offered his tribute to the 96-year-old Monarch.

“Formula 1 mourns the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“For more than seven decades she dedicated her life to public service with dignity and devotion and inspired so many around the world. Formula 1 sends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

F1 teams added their response via social media.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the UK and the Commonwealth.”
