Max Verstappen put Red Bull on top as Formula 1 testing came to an end in Bahrain on Sunday.

Taking over from teammate and morning pacesetter Sergio Perez, the Dutchman completed two runs on the C4 tyre in the final hour, posting a 1m28.960s despite not having a particularly clean lap.

In contrast, Lewis Hamilton spun out the final corner before attempting his first C5 compound lap, eventually finishing a second down in fifth for Mercedes following his flying lap.

It was a better day for the reigning champions, however, as they managed a combined 140 laps to claw back some of the lost running from Friday.

Attracting plenty of attention in the afternoon was AlphaTauri rookie Yuki Tsunoda, as the Japanese driver completed a Grand Prix weekend simulation with a race distance and then a series of qualifying-style runs.

The 20-year-old was quick too, ending the day less than a tenth slower than Verstappen in P2, albeit on the C5 versus the C4 on the Red Bull.

Carlos Sainz was blighted by a hydraulic issue in the Ferrari, but still managed 79 laps and the third-best time as he continues to settle in at the Scuderia.

Kimi Raikkonen (166) and George Russell (158) completed a combined 324 laps of the Bahrain track on Sunday, finishing fourth and sixth for Alfa Romeo and Williams respectively.

Daniel Ricciardo got his first taste of the McLaren in the more favourable evening conditions, but couldn’t repeat his P1 antics from Friday and Saturday in seventh.

Perez’s morning best remained good enough for eighth, with Fernando Alonso ninth in the Alpine.

Nikita Mazepin was the next afternoon runner in 14th for Haas, with Sebastian Vettel 17th as the two Aston Martin drivers brought up the field after focusing on long runs.

Vettel also lost more important track time as an apparent turbo issue kept him in the garage for most of the final two hours.
