F2 retires car No.19 in tribute to Hubert

Formula 2 has retired the No.19 car from active use in tribute to Anthoine Hubert, who died last year.

The Frenchman was tragically killed as a result of a high-speed collision at the top of Raidillon during the feature race at Spa-Francorchamps in August.

Following that event, his replacement, Artem Markelov, ran the No.22 on his BWT Arden and now it has been confirmed numbers 18 and 19 will be bypassed in the entry list for the 2020 season.

Unlike F1, where personal driver numbers were introduced in 2014, F2 has continued the previous system of identifying each car based on their position in the Constructors’ Championship the previous year.

As a result, DAMS will run the No.1 and No.2 on their cars this year and, for the exception of No.13, teams will continue until No.17 before jumping to No.20 and 21 for the Prema drivers.

In F1, only the No.17 is retired in tribute to Jules Bianchi after his death following his accident at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.
