Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto believes it is better to focus on the positives from the team’s improved performance after the summer break.
While the high-speed circuits are Spa and Monza were tipped to favour the Scuderia, what wasn’t anticipated was they would then continue that pace in Singapore and Sochi winning three of the four races.
Naturally, after having spent much of the season off the pace, the sudden surge leads some to wonder ‘what could have been’, but Binotto isn’t one of them.
“I think having regret does not make sense. Really, you need to move forward and look ahead,” he said via Crash.net.

“If we were not performing as expected or we missed opportunities somehow we’ve got some responsibilities on that, but I think more important is to move forward, learn from mistakes, and make sure they are not happening again in the future.
“It’s not a matter of regret. It would be a regret if we would not learn from that, and I think that as a team we are growing and that’s more important.”
After admitting going the wrong way on car design earlier this year, it could be a genuine possibility that Ferrari ends 2019 with the fastest car on the grid, certainly if you listen to Mercedes.
And for Binotto, this late-season surge could at least offer some comfort looking ahead to 2020.
“At the start of the season we focused race by race and tried to optimise the result of every single race, and only at the end of the season we can somehow try to draw the line and see where we are,” he said.
“It would be great to do at least better than last year, as that as a team at least would show we are improving.
“I know we had a bad start to the season so it may be difficult, but it’s not impossible and that should be the first objective, and then let’s start dreaming, and if we can do more, we would not reject it.”
Currently, Ferrari has 409 points, 162 short of their 2018 total of 571.
