Ferrari has the best driver pairing in F1 with Vettel and Leclerc

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto believes his team has the best driver line-up on the Formula 1 grid with Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel.

The two drivers had an increasingly fractious first season together in 2019, with the Monegasque threatening the established lead driver status of the four-time world champion.

Indeed, after scoring more wins, more poles and finished ahead in the Drivers’ standings, Ferrari has had to alter their approach for this year.

And though there are concerns over possible tensions, Binotto is sure that as a team, they are ahead of the rivals.

“When we go to Australia, there will be no number one,” team boss Mattia Binotto stated via GrandPrix247.

“When we started the (2019) season, the situation was different as we had a rookie and an experienced driver, but now we believe that with Vettel and Leclerc we have the best driver pair in the field.”

There are already signs, however, of Ferrari unofficially putting their eggs in the Leclerc basket having recently extended his contract until 2024.

Meanwhile, Vettel enters this year with uncertainty over his future, amid speculation linking Lewis Hamilton to his seat.

“I don’t see any pressure there,” Binotto claimed. “Seb is part of Ferrari. We will work with him to find out what he wants to do in the future, what we want to do, what we may not have done yet.

“We have enough time to negotiate with Seb about his future,” he assured.
