Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto and McLaren’s Lando Norris believe Lewis Hamilton will wrap up an eighth Formula 1 championship in 2021.
The Briton is now the odds-on favourite to win the 2021 Drivers’ Championship with second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix meaning Hamilton has vaulted Max Verstappen in the standings with an eight-point lead per Sports Betting Dime.
After two races severely impacted by Lap 1 collisions, however, the Red Bull driver will be keen to hit back at his two home races following the summer break, first in Belgium and then the Netherlands, which hosts its first F1 race since 1985 next month.
And with 12 GP’s still planned this season, Binotto admits his head wins over his heart when it comes to making a championship prediction.
“It’s an exciting challenge between two great drivers and I hope they fight to the end,” said Binotto during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If I had to bet, I would bet on Lewis because I think Mercedes will win in the end, but I’m rooting for Max. It would do the sport good to break the status quo.”
Also backing Hamilton is fellow Brit Norris, who himself currently sits third in the standings after a remarkable first half of 2021.
“I’m hoping it’s coming home, of course, it looks a tough battle,” he told Sky Sports, referencing the England football chant.
“Max is looking very strong, so a high probability that it is going to go Dutch, but I’m supporting Lewis, I’m supporting my fellow countryman, I wish him all the best.
“And both of them all the best, in their fight for the Championship.”
However, Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel is pulling for Verstappen to become F1’s youngest world champion but not simply to end Mercedes’ run of domination.
“I would be happy if Max wins the World title this year,” the German told Bild.
“That would mean Michael Schumacher would keep his record of seven titles. Michael is my hero, as everyone knows, and that’s why I would be happy if Max makes it.
“But one thing is clear to me – if Lewis makes it and gets his eighth title, then he deserves our full respect,” Vettel concluded.
