Ferrari has been offered the chance to host their 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix at Mugello in September, according to reports.
Currently, the 2020 schedule is only confirmed until the Italian GP at Monza on September 6, and there’s uncertainty over the viability of several races in Asia and the Americas due to coronavirus measures.
It was previously suggested that Baku would be rescheduled into the usual Singapore GP slot, with that race only able to go ahead with fans, before a potential double-header in Sochi.
But with what would be the ninth round of this year’s championship marking Ferrari’s big milestone of 1000 F1 races, RaceFans and other sources reveal the Scuderia has reportedly said yes to Liberty Media’s opportunity to celebrate with a second race in Italy.

Rather than stay at Monza, however, Mugello, a circuit owned by Ferrari, has emerged as the most likely option to hold a second Italian race, with Imola ruled out due to restrictions on gatherings.
The Tuscan circuit is better known as a MotoGP venue and has never hosted an F1 race previously, but teams did hold a test back in 2012.
At the time there were some questions over safety, with the Mugello layout consisting of fast, sweeping bends and a long main straight, but it does hold the necessary Grade 1 FIA licence that all F1 venues must have.
