Ferrari has announced a shut down of operations across their factories both in Maranello and Modena until March 29.
Italy has been under a nationwide lockdown for much of the past week but the country’s most famous brand had been continuing production, both on the F1 and road car side of their company.
With more suppliers announcing shutdowns, however, including Brembo and Pirelli, Ferrari faced too much disruption to their supply chains, leading to the decision to close down also.
“At a time like this my gratitude goes first and foremost to Ferrari’s women and men,” commented CEO Louis Camilleri. “Their tremendous commitment over the past few days has demonstrated the passion and dedication that defines our marque.

“Together with our suppliers they have ensured the company’s production. It is out of our respect for them, for their peace of mind and those of their families, that we have decided on this course of action.
“Our clients and fans are also top of mind for us at this time, as we prepare for a strong restart.”
It is understood no workers have yet tested positive for the Coronavirus and during this period of absence, full salaries will be paid and permitted time off for holidays will also be unchanged.
All non-manufacturing related activities are also set to continue as normal with those employees working from home.
Any disadvantage from the shutdown in F1 should be minimal with all teams observing a two-week period of self-isolation upon return from Melbourne.
