First image of new Racing Point leaked ahead of Monday launch

A first image of the new Racing Point RP02 has been leaked ahead of the scheduled launch on Monday.

The Silverstone-based outfit was meant to do the big unveil in the Austrian city of Mondsee, where the headquarters of main sponsor BWT is located.

However, now the surprise has been spoilt with an image from a photoshoot posted by the Twitter account @F1colours.

The most noticeable change is the apparent exit of betting company and title sponsor SportPesa from last year, meaning the whole car is now a lovely shade of BWT pink.

Also, from first impressions, the new RP02 seems to follow the trend of almost every car seen so far with ultra-tight sidepods and engine cover.

The front nose is also more in line with the rest of the grid, with the nostril design a unique feature of the team in recent years.

Heading into 2020, expectations are higher at Racing Point after a difficult season last year with the fallout from the financial issues and eventual takeover by Lawrence Stroll being felt.

Indeed, with a good amount of financial backing now behind the team, it is possible they could be dark horses for fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.
