Force India boss reveals Stroll’s likely first appearance for team

Lance Stroll is expected to make his first appearance for Force India at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, team boss Otmar Szafnauer has revealed.

It is very much an open secret that the Canadian will be moving from Williams and replacing Esteban Ocon following the takeover by his father Lawrence during the summer break.

However, the question has been when with initial speculation suggesting it could be an immediate switch but now it seems the 22-year-old will see out the year at the Silverstone squad.

Asked about the post-season test at Yas Marina though, Szafnauer admits he wants to “have the second driver in the car to get some mileage”.

“The Abu Dhabi test is all about next year. Although it is with this year’s car, it is with next year’s tyres, so it is all about understanding next year’s tyres,” he continued.

Many are surprised that Stroll’s Force India move already isn’t already official despite no longer being hidden by seemingly anyone and the American chief was asked if anything was causing the delay.

“I don’t think so, but I don’t think there is any reason to hurry it,” he added. “It is just out of courtesy to Esteban until he knows what he is doing.

“It would be nice for Esteban to announce his own thing.”
