Sergio Perez admits it is "obvious" he would have to make way if Racing Point signed Sebastian Vettel for 2021.

Last week, rumours began to grow that the four-time world champion had been offered the chance to join the team that will be known as Aston Martin next year by owner Lawrence Stroll.

Of course, that has led to the automatic assumption that Perez would be the driver replaced, given his teammate is Lawrence's son Lance Stroll.

And speaking last weekend in Hungary the Mexican confirmed he too knows that would be the case.

"I think [the choice] is obvious if someone has to go," he said speaking to Spain's Movistar+ F1.

"I'm a dad, I wouldn't kick my son out, but there's not much I can say.

"There are many [rumours] around. From me, nothing, everything remains the same. I have a contract with the team."

Last week it was reported by German publication Bild that Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll only needs to trigger a release clause in Perez's contract to bring in Vettel next year.

"In all contracts, there are always clauses," Checo acknowledged.

"It is a bit related to sponsorship, that can open that clause, but we're working hard with all our sponsors so that this does not happen.

"I would not say that it depends on a single sponsor, it is more of an overall issue."

Commenting on the driver situation last weekend, however, Racing Point CEO Otmar Szafnauer again insisted the team has no intention to break their current line-up.

“They’re both contracted and we’re happy with the drivers we have," he said in Hungary.

“It’s tough to predict the future but as I said, what they need to do is do the best they can, they’re contracted. Watch this space, we’ll see where we go.

“Our intention is never to not honour our contracts.”

A date of August 2 though has been rumoured for a potential Vettel announcement at Silverstone, however...

“There’s no timeline," Szafnauer declared. "We’ve had two races, we’re in our third of the season, and it’s silly season already, so there’s no time-bound decision-making process.”
