Romain Grosjean said his Haas car "didn't feel the same" after struggling to repeat Friday's performance in Spanish Grand Prix qualifying.
The Frenchman finished fifth fastest in Practice 2, by far the most competitive the American team has been this season, but an engine failure in the closing minutes would end that session on a negative.
And the fallout from that problem was carried over into Saturday, as Grosjean admits the feeling he had on Friday disappeared, resulting in the disappointing P17 on the grid.
"Yea, the boys had the change the engine and the gearbox, and a lot of things last night, they finished at 4am and I really wanted to give them a good day today," he said.

"But when I jumped in the car this morning it didn't feel the same, and I could feel it (the Q1 exit) coming sadly, so we need to analyse and understand [what happened]."
Asked what the biggest change was day-to-day, Grosjean added: "The setup, the front end is gone again so I can't drive with understeer, I don't have any confidence, so yeah, that's killing us."
Haas teammate Kevin Magnussen will start one place ahead in 16th, after narrowly missing out on Q2.
