Kevin Magnussen wants to rekindle that winning feeling as he leaves himself "open to anything" following his exit from Haas.

Ahead of this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix, the Dane and Romain Grosjean both confirmed they would be leaving the American squad after four years of teammates.

Speaking in Thursday's press conference at Portimao, Grosjean revealed financial reasons had motivated Haas' decision to go for an all-new line-up.

And Magnussen, who earlier this year admitted he wouldn't stay in F1 if the impact from Covid-19 led to a renewed push for pay drivers, admitted he wasn't surprised to be dropped.

“I’ve been kind of thinking about options for a while, so it didn’t change a lot once Guenther [Steiner] told me that they were going to look for other drivers,” he said.

“So it doesn’t matter really. I would have considered it very seriously if I was offered something from Haas, but I’ve been looking elsewhere for a while.”

Magnussen debuted with McLaren in 2014, joined Renault in 2016 and then relocated to Haas in 2017, where he has been since.

And as for his next career step: “I would say that I’m very open to anything at the moment,” he said.

“For sure, I feel that I have more to bring in Formula 1. I’m only just 28 years old and I still feel I have more to give in F1, but we’ll see.

“There’s not a lot of seats left. I really miss winning, I miss the feeling of winning races, and that’s kind of really something that I’ve started to think about quite a lot recently, how much I miss that.

“We’ll see where that opportunity is and what comes my way and then I’ll make the decision sometime.”

Asked if he had any preferences, Kevin replied: “IndyCar has been something that I’ve been interested in always.

“My Dad was an IndyCar driver back in the 90s and I’ve been to IndyCar races with him as a small child. I just always thought it was super cool and I would love to have a go in that sometime.

“But at the moment I think even outside of F1 the whole motorsport world is hit by the times that we have this year, and it doesn’t look easy to get good deals over there," he suggested.

“So we’ll see. I’m not saying no to it at all, and not saying it’s impossible, but it looks slightly difficult.”
