Ross Brawn says he's "optimistic" Mick Schumacher will live up to expectations should he reach Formula 1.

The son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is currently looking to secure the F2 title over the next two weekends in Bahrain.

But regardless, Mick is widely expected to be confirmed as a Haas driver next year alongside Russian Nikita Mazepin.

Of course, having been a crucial figure in the success of Michael during his career, Brawn has known the younger Schumacher since he was a kid.

And commenting on the potential of the 21-year-old, the current F1 motorsport boss spoke highly of Schumi Jr.

“It’s been fascinating to watch him grow. In the last two seasons, he has been very promising," he told Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We don’t know how he will fare in F1 but he’s incredibly mature and well balanced.

“I’m optimistic, he has qualities and skills. Obviously, he has a lot of pressure on him, there’s no doubt, but so far he has managed it well," Brawn added.

“Nico Rosberg made it [becoming champion after his father Keke], having a World Champion father like Michael, the legacy is even heavier, but I keep my fingers crossed.”

Schumacher currently has an 18-point lead in the F2 standings, this after closest rival and fellow Ferrari junior Callum Ilott took pole for Saturday's feature race in Bahrain.

In contrast, Mick will start down in 10th.
