McLaren has hit the track for the first time this year in a shakedown of their new MCL35M on Tuesday.

The historic team became the first to unveil their 2021 Formula 1 car in a digital launch at their base in Woking on Monday evening.

And a little over 14 hours later, Lando Norris took to a soggy Silverstone circuit, turning the first laps of what is a new era at McLaren.

That's because the MCL35M is the first Mercedes-powered car to come from the MTC since 2014, as the two rekindle their famous partnership that won three Drivers' Championship with Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton.

Later in the day, Daniel Ricciardo will also start the next chapter in his F1 career, after making the move to McLaren from Renault.

“It’s great to have finally joined the team after what feels like an age since we confirmed it last May,” the Aussie said at McLaren’s launch. “I’m thrilled to be a McLaren driver and super-keen to get started.

“McLaren has been on an awesome journey over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to helping the team maintain this positive momentum. I’ve been spending the last few weeks here in the UK getting fully integrated into the team so that we’re as prepared as possible for the start of the season.

“I’ve had such a warm welcome from everyone I’ve met and there’s a real sense of unity and focus around the factory and a lot of excitement.

“Going into this new season in Formula 1, I’m feeling excited and motivated to give it my absolute all. I think my determination to perform has only grown as I’ve gained more experience and I’m looking forward to getting this next chapter in my career started.”

McLaren is expected to conduct both of their permitted filming days with the 2021 car this week at Silverstone, with the team limited to 100km of running each day.
