Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is now Formula 1's 'dream team', veteran pundit Tony Jardine claims.

The Briton and the Dutchman arguably ended 2018 as the two best drivers on the grid, showing both pace and consistency at a level few can match.

It is now hoped with Verstappen's Red Bull team switching to Honda engines for this season, that his improvement can be translated into a full championship battle against Hamilton and Mercedes.

If not, however: "I'm sure Verstappen would love to go to Mercedes if they're still very competitive," he told Express Sport.

"It would be the dream team, wouldn't it. Mercedes would love to be able to do that."

However, the days of two top drivers going head-to-head at the same team, ala Ayrton Senna & Alain Prost at McLaren, appear to be fading.

Not just because team bosses are concerned at the possible consequences of it but also the increasing influence of drivers.

"I actually think a bit like [Sebastian] Vettel, who protests as much as he can about who his teammate might be, which is another reason why Daniel Ricciardo who we all thought he was a shoo-in at Ferrari was kept out, Lewis might be able to keep Verstappen out," Jardine claims.
