Stewards are looking to adopt a more lenient stance on racing incidents after meeting with Formula 1 drivers in Bahrain.

The line between what is permitted and what isn't has become increasingly blurred over the years through a combination of different interpretations and an inconsistent application.

With drivers also having to be more cautious as a result, it has meant the action on track hasn't been as combative as certainly, we see in Formula E.

But efforts are now being made to address that.

“What we wanted to try and do was work towards some consensus on what ‘let them race’ means,” chairman of the stewards Garry Connelly explained to Motorsport.com.

“We went around the room and every driver expressed an opinion. One issue that was discussed was moving under braking, which they all believe that can be potentially dangerous.”

Don't expect too much to change at least in Bahrain, however, with Connelly explaining the consensus of the meeting will now be looked at before anything is decided.

“There are probably three or four major points that we’ll take out of it," he said.

“I guess you can sum it up by saying they want to be allowed to race, but they want it to be safe and fair.”
