Robert Kubica has played down the possibility of a surprise result this weekend in Azerbaijan.

His Williams team might head to the Land of Fire with a little more optimism than in the opening races because of the ability of the Baku street circuit to produce unexpected results.

However, the Pole himself is cautious with the notoriously tricky layout perhaps his biggest challenge yet since returning.

"Baku showed that everything is possible, but I think we are too far off from the pack to think about it," he told Motorsport.com of the prospect of a points finish.

"Of course in the past editions, especially two years ago, a lot of things happened during the race and some cars finished in the front, but we will have to see.

"First of all, this is a new track for me so I'm not thinking too much about the race. I'm thinking about approaching the weekend in the right way and try to get a good feeling straight away on a street circuit."

Kubica is also like wary because layouts with tight sequences, such as Baku's castle section, was where his limitations might also be an issue.

And he's making no predictions as to how he'll compare to teammate George Russell, particularly after struggling with the handling of his Williams.

"I don't know exactly how we are going to, let's say, approach this week," he said.

"I would say from what I know people have been working on it and trying to understand, but I think for now we don't have a clear solution."
